Digital employee onboarding checklist for new teams
Successful onboarding is mostly about boundaries and expectations. This checklist helps teams enable digital employees safely while still getting immediate productivity gains.
1. Connect only required channels
Start with one or two channels tied to high-value workflows. Most teams begin with GitHub and email, then add Slack or document comments after the first month.
Use the integrations page to confirm what each channel supports.
2. Set permission boundaries before launch
Define where automation can read, write, and execute. Restrict external systems until your review process is stable.
- Workspace scope and allowed repositories/docs.
- Sensitive directories and restricted actions.
- Escalation owner for policy exceptions.
3. Seed memory with durable context
Capture stable preferences like naming conventions, preferred deliverable format, and key contacts. Avoid storing temporary request details as long-term memory.
This improves consistency for recurring work, especially when paired with AI agent memory best practices.
4. Define "done" for each workflow
Done should include both execution and communication: completed work, verification evidence, and concise handoff summary in-channel.
